Synopsis
The final Vanek play. In this play, another writer named Stanek appeals to Vanek to help start a petition protesting the arrest of Stanek’s daughter’s fiance. However, when Stanek discovers the petition has already been started, he has to decide whether to sign it himself.
Production history
Written the shadow of the events surrounding Charter 77, Havel once again used Vanek to tell a very personal experience. It was produced at the Burgtheater in Vienna along with another play featuring Vanek, this one written by Havel's friend Pavel Kohout.
